Meet Linda
Painter and metal sculptor Linda MacAulay knew she was destined to become an artist from an early age.
Linda’s early study was with photography, drawing and painting. Inspired by the beauty and uniqueness of the Australian landscape she decided to become a landscape artist and developed a distinctive style which uses vivid colour and detail. “I strive to capture the essence of our country from the rich redness of the Pilbara to the turquoise waters of our spectacular coastline.”
“I feel an affinity for the immediacy of watercolour and love the way it flows and mixes on the paper to produce some amazing effects. More recently I have been working in acrylic. I love the strong rich colours and the ability to work on large scale canvasses. This enables me to truly capture the scale and intensity of the Australian landscape while having all the spontaneity and joy of a water based medium.”
Linda has exhibited internationally and her work has featured in galleries in Western Australia, NSW, the Northern Territory and Victoria. Her work has won a number of watercolour awards as well as being included in several corporate and private collections. She has accepted many commissions for both private and corporate clients.
After living in Perth for 10 years and traveling extensively around Australia, Linda now calls Melbourne home where she has continues to paint, exhibit and teach. She is recognised as one of Australias foremost watercolour artists.
Linda is an active member of the local arts community in the Shire of Nillumbik.
Artist Statement
“Inspired by the rich colours of the Australian landscape, I try to capture it’s essence and changing moods. I am primarily a landscape painter who specialises in large scale canvasses that represent the vast open spaces unique to our country. Sometimes I feel this is best done as a realist painter and other times I abstract the landscape to highten the viewers appreciation of the scene. I travel extensively with my work and immerse myself in the environment I represent.
Recently I have returned from Uluru where I spent time working as the Artist in Residence.”
My emu series is just a chance for me to have a bit of fun as an artist. I don’t like to take life too seriously and enjoy making people smile”
